Selby Community Fridge
Did you know? A third of all food produced is wasted!
The Community Fridge is a way of reducing the environmental impact of food waste, which is a huge issue.
The Selby Community Fridge is more than just a place to get food; it’s a hub for reducing food waste and building community. We welcome donations from local businesses, households, and gardens, and encourage everyone to share surplus food. Whether you need food, want to volunteer, or are simply interested in getting involved with food-related activities, the Selby Community Fridge is open to all.
As part of the national Community Fridge movement ‘Hubbub,’ our project is dedicated to empowering our community and promoting sustainable food practices.
If you or someone you know is struggling to put food on the table, the Selby Community Fridge is here to help. Our fridge is stocked with fresh, nutritious food donated by local businesses, households, and gardens. Whether you’re a student, a family, or an individual facing financial hardship, everyone is welcome to come and take what they need. There’s no judgment or eligibility requirements.
Simply visit us at Community House on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 2-4pm and let us help you put a healthy meal on your plate.
The benefits of the community fridge:
- Offering free, fresh food to everyone
- Directly helping fight food insecurity at grass roots level
- Connecting people to their communities
- Reducing food waste by sharing surplus food with the local community
Want to get involved?
The Selby Community Fridge is powered by the generous dedication of our volunteer team. Those who collect the food from the supermarkets and other food producers, and those who provide essential service. Without these volunteers we would not be able to run our Fridge and ensuring that our community has access to fresh, nutritious food.
