Community Connectors: Creating an inclusive and supported community for everyone.
Do you know your community inside out? You could be a Community Connector! We’re looking for passionate individuals who are the heart and soul of their neighbourhoods. Whether you’re a friendly local business owner, a dedicated community group member, or simply someone who cares about where you live, your knowledge and connections can make a huge difference.
Our July Community Connectors event showcased the incredible community care services that are available in the Selby area and included presentations by: Selby Town PCN Care Coordinator Team, Dementia Forward, Everyday Enable, and GamCare.
Who are Community Connectors?
Community Connectors are people who live or work in a specific neighbourhood, know their community well, and are clued-up about services and support available to help those in need. They can be anyone, such as a resident, a local business owner (like a pub or shop owner), or a member of a village social group, who are willing to assist others when possible.
Why are we looking for Community Connectors?
We are Up for Yorkshire, a local organisation that supports and fosters the growth of the voluntary and community sector in the Selby area, and across Yorkshire. Our goal is to create an inclusive and supported community for everyone. Community Connectors are crucial to us because they share information about local activities, enabling us to assist residents in their communities by letting them know about events and where to find help and advice. This doesn’t have to be a major time commitment; in fact, you might already be doing it!
How will we support Community Connectors?
We will keep Community Connectors informed by sending regular email updates about community services and activities that they can share with their friends, contacts, and social groups. We will also provide free training and events to better support your communities. Community Connectors will also have access to an online funding portal for information on grants and details about services like Community Transport and Power of Attorney.
How can you help?
You might already be a ‘Community Connector’ in your local community. If that’s the case, please let us know, as we’d like to know where you’re based and how best to stay in touch. If you’re interested in becoming a Community Connector and working with us to help your local community, or if you want to learn more, please get in touch via our Contact form or by emailing matt@upforyorkshire.org.uk
