Community Connectors

A Community Connector (CC) is someone local, clued-up about services and support available, and passionate about helping those in need. We are creating a network to support and celebrate CC’s.

We’d love to hear from anyone already doing this, or people who would be interested in becoming a CC.

Creating an inclusive and supported community for everyone.

Who are Community Connectors?

Community Connectors are people who live or work in a specific neighbourhood, know their community well, and are clued-up about services and support available to help those in need. They can be anyone, such as a resident, a local business owner (like a pub or shop owner), or a member of a village social group, who are willing to assist others when possible.

Who are we?

We are Up for Yorkshire, a local organisation that supports and fosters the growth of the voluntary and community sector in the Selby area, and across Yorkshire. Our goal is to create an inclusive and supported community for everyone. Community Connectors are crucial to us because they share information about local activities, enabling us to assist residents in their communities by letting them know about events and where to find help and advice. This doesn’t have to be a major time commitment; in fact, you might already be doing it!

How can we help?

Community Connectors play a vital Role in keeping communities informed about events and support. It’s not an extra time commitment – you might already be doing it! We keep Connectors updated through regular email updates on community services and activities. We also organise occasional gatherings for networking, expert talks, and sharing success stories.

Connectors have access to an online grant finder portal, and information on services like Community Transport, training, and Power of Attorney guidance.

Our Winter Community Connector Event will be on Tuesday 4th February, 1.00pm - 3.00pm, at Brayton Community Centre

Our next network event is about community skills and training, and how as Community Connectors we are helping people to learn new skills and interests that will help them in life and work, or just for the joy of learning.

So, we are bringing experts and service providers together to showcase the incredible services available in the Selby area and provide information on where to go for help. So, if you are interested in finding out who is offering what, for whom and where, or you would like to start a new activity, join us to get clued-up and meet other Community Connectors.

The Winter event will include presentations by:

  • Up For Yorkshire – Lindsay Brown & Nick Atherton re: Rise 2 Thrive and Work and Wellbeing, and Alison Hartley re: Digital Champions
  • Christine Brass – Programme Manager at Multiply
  • Mary McCormack – Mary McCormack – Selby College Head of Distance and Online Learning
  • Matt Read – NYC Adult Learning Services Partnership and Development Officer

The event will conclude with a presentation from Tom Jenkinson from NYC Localities Lead Selby & Ainsty about the Inspire Fund that provides resident groups or community organisations with grants of up to £1,000 to help fund local projects and events.

Come along and be inspired by the amazing things community connectors are doing in Selby and the surrounding area.
