Community at the heart
Brayton Community Centre has always been an independent, not-for-profit charity. In 2021 the Centre was really struggling and after Community Consultation and close work with Brayton Parish Council and other Stakeholders, Up For Yorkshire agreed to take over the governance of the building, protecting it as an invaluable community asset.
We have a long and successful track record of running and supporting community buildings, spaces, and projects, so we have been able to take the centre under our wing and help it to flourish. Over the last two years we have focused on enabling Brayton Community Centre, Carpark and Playground, to be turned around, giving it a fresh perspective and an injection of passion. We are so keen to maximise this wonderful space and solidly committed to working with and for the local community as we continue to move things forward.
A vibrant, inclusive & safe space
Brayton Community Centre has become a vibrant, inclusive, safe space for Brayton and the surrounding area. Over the last two years we have carried out urgent repairs and maintenance to the building, as well as liaising and consulting with the local community, to plan and implement options to make the building more usable, accessible, and wide-reaching. This project is a huge challenge, and one we are so excited to be leading and developing.
The centre is already being used so much more, and we have invested all the time from our own reserves to improve, secure, and develop the entire site. Maximising the use of the building has seen a huge increase in bookings, with people of all ages and backgrounds enjoying full use of the Centre once more.
A fantastic venue for everyone
Surrounded by wonderful green boarders and trees, with adjacent wide-reaching Parish Council and Church fields, Brayton Community Centre is home to a:
- Fantastic multi-purpose building
- Large car park
- Children’s playground
The building offers a selection of flexible, accessible, and recently redecorated rooms. These include:
- A large main hall, with stage
- A good-sized meeting/activity room
- A smaller-sized meeting/activity room
- A fantastic and well equipped kitchen
- Newly refurbished toilets
With a spacious entrance lobby and ample parking, this venue is ideal for larger and smaller meetings or events. Providing space for those needing even just one-to-one sessions, all the way up to 200 people theatre seated audiences.
The playground is currently being reviewed and improved, with extensive work being carried out throughout both the grounds and building.

Addressing Youth Opportunities in the Area
Working with local neighbours who offered to volunteer, youth organisation ‘Flying Futures’ the Police Crime Commissioners Fund, and Brayton Parish Council, we have set up a youth group, once a week, to start to build relationship with young people. This has been going extremely well, and seen a marked improvement with vandalism and antisocial behaviour.
A multi-agency approach, involving Up For Yorkshire, the Police, NYC, Brayton Parish Council, and youth services has been a great support in addressing the need for a youth provision within the area. We continue to liaise with the children and young people at every stage, as well as the wider community.
We are now working with all agencies towards a large-scale project, to knock through into unused old changing rooms and provide more space and opportunity for young people, with funding applications in to carry out the building work and fund a youth worker to be based on site.
We look forward to what the next year will bring as we continue with this exciting collaborative project.
We need your help! Please contact us to find out more about how to get involved with this fantastic project and anything else going on at Brayton Community Centre.
