Growing in Confidence

Our community Gardening Project, for Everyone

Group sessions every Wednesday, March to December in Selby Park

We support residents of all ages, abilities & interests, to work together in Selby Park; enjoying the outdoors, developing community spaces & improving wellbeing & health.

Selby Park

The park project was established in partnership with Selby Hands of Hope, with a small team of volunteer gardeners, looking to support the local community, improve outside space, and find a sense of purpose for themselves.

Selby Hands of Hope, Up For Yorkshire, and project participants have worked in partnership with the Council, Selby Community Furniture Store, and Selby Garden Centre to make this project the success that it is today.

The team have also taken on caring for the Sensory Garden and will be working closely with the council throughout the exciting regeneration project of the Railway Station.

Selby Park - The Handy Gardeners

The Handy Gardeners

The team call themselves ‘The Handy Gardeners’ and are now a key member of the Sustainability Partnership. They have already started to develop other green spaces in Selby Town, continuing to work closely with NYC, Selby Civic Society, Big Local, Groundworks and Project Wild.

The recent pandemic has shown us just how crucial accessible outdoor space is for the wider community. This project works to support ongoing efforts from both the statutory and voluntary sectors, as well as providing fantastic volunteering opportunities.

You can become part of our team of volunteer gardeners, supporting the local community by improving outside spaces, whilst finding a sense of purpose & improved wellbeing. If you’d like to find out more, or get involved, please contact us.
