St. Richards Centre
At Up For Yorkshire, we believe in protecting the places that bring people together. That’s why we’re excited to share our latest community development, St Richard’s Centre, a beautiful space nestled in the heart of the Abbotts Road estate in Selby. Originally built to replace a former church, St Richard’s was always intended as a hub for the community. But over time, and particularly following the impact of the pandemic, its use declined. When the building’s owners reached out, we saw a meaningful opportunity: to breathe new life into a space that still holds so much potential.
Why did we take it on?
With our strong local networks and deep-rooted belief in community-led spaces, this felt like the perfect fit. The centre reflects everything we stand for, accessibility, professionalism, and purpose. It’s a place we know can make a real difference.
What’s next for St Richard’s?
While it’s already being used for meetings and admin, the vision doesn’t stop there. The space, complete with a large hall, smaller meeting room, kitchen, and facilities, is available for hire by individuals, businesses, or groups looking for a welcoming venue. Whether it’s a local event, a community gathering, or even a children’s party, St Richard’s is ready to open its doors.
Most importantly, we want the centre to go back to its roots: a space for the community, used by the community.
We’ll be sharing more updates as plans develop, including upcoming events and opportunities to get involved. For now, we’re just thrilled to see this fantastic space begin a new chapter, and we can’t wait to see how the community makes it their own.
