Volunteering Opportunities at Up For Yorkshire!

At Up For Yorkshire, we understand that volunteers are the driving force behind every charity. As a result, we are proud to champion the incredible individuals who give their time, energy, and care to make a real difference, whether its offering aid to our community fridge, or being a volunteer driver, our volunteers help create stronger, more connected communities. But volunteering doesn’t just benefit others, it can also be a fantastic way to meet new people, boost confidence, learn new skills and be part of something meaningful. We are always on the lookout for new volunteers to join our team, being people who want to give back, meet new people, and be part of something truly meaningful. So, if you’re ready to make a difference, we’d love to welcome you on board!

How can volunteering help you?

While volunteering can have many benefits for the community, there are also many ways in which it can help you!

There is a variety of research which supports the conclusion that volunteering is a fantastic way of improving wellbeing, by helping to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. By giving your time and energy to help others, you can gain an improved sense of purpose which can improve your overall mental and emotional health.

Ultimately, this can lead to a more fulfilled, balanced, and connected way of living.

Volunteering can also have many benefits for your career development and community connections. This is done by teaching you a range of practical skills, from communication and teamwork to problem solving and innovation, which can all stand out on a CV. As well as this, it is a positive way of meeting new people and building local ties.

Overall, volunteering is a very positive means of enriching your mind, body and spirit, a way of building your social and professional bridges, and connecting you to something bigger.

Volunteering Opportunities

Community Fridge
The Selby Community Fridge is open every Wednesday form 2-4PM. Many people in the community rely on the fridge each week, making it a pivotal part of the lives of many individuals and families. We are on the search for volunteers who can help us keep this service running smoothly and effectively. This could include helping us set up, stocking the shelves, and cleaning down. If you are interested or would like some more information, please do get in touch at: alison@upforyorkshire.org.uk.

Volunteer Car Scheme
Our volunteer car scheme could be an opportunity for you to make a real difference in the community. The scheme is aimed at helping to support vulnerable individuals who can’t use public transportation, by giving them a way of getting out and about to appointments, meetings and more. Use your own car to provide vital door-to-door service, where full training and mileage reimbursements will be provided!

For this scheme, volunteers must:

  • Be 25+
  • Have a full, clean licence
  • 2+ years of driving experience.

If you are interested or would like some more information, please contact alison@upforyorkshire.org.uk

While we are urgently in need for volunteers for the previously outlined schemes, Up For Yorkshire also offers a variety of other opportunities that may be a better fit for you. If you feel another role would better suit your interests or availability, please email
